Titles are important because they help us realize the heritage and bloodlines of a horse quickly. Sometimes these titles will overlap. A horse may be Egyptian and Crabbet, or Egyptian and Russian, or other combinations. In this database, if a horse meets the qualifications of Straight Egyptian, Egyptian Sired or Egyptian Bred those are the titles that take precedence. That does not mean their Crabbet, or Russian, or other heritage is ignored or less important. It is simply the way this database is set up.

VERY IMPORTANT:  Horses that have been imported to a country have an * in their name in this database to distinguish them from horses that have not been imported. I am putting the * BEHIND the name for sorting purposes, so you will see Sunshine*  and not *Sunshine, as is most common!  Please realize when you see the asterisk * behind the name that it DOES mean Imported horse!

Inbreeding occurs whenever any ancestor appears on both sides of a pedigree - i.e. when the sire and dam of an horse have one or more ancestors in common. The degree of inbreeding depends on how many common ancestors there are, and how close they are in the pedigree. E.g. a common grandparent has a very much larger impact on the degree of inbreeding than does a common great-great-grandparent.
The degree of inbreeding is computed using a formula known as Wright's Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI). It is expressed as a percentage.

If you have questions about the horses found in this database, please email me.

If you see a field such as Born: or Died: or Raswan:, etc.  with nothing after it, I had no entry for that field.

This program default shows M for MALE and F for FEMALE and you may see a F or M in the horse description. I cannot seem to get that removed.

I have added Color and Mare, Stallion or Gelding where possible.

The year date after the horse's name is the year of its birth. If you see NFD after a name, that means No Foaling Date known.

In every case, unless I have made an error, the definitions SE, ES and EB will be uppermost in the definition given to a horse. For instance if a horse bred at Babolna Stud (BAB) happens also to be Straight Egyptian, the definition given will be SE, with an Additional Title of BAB. I think it is important to know the influence of the Egyptian horses therefore I have set up this database to reflect the Egyptian horse influence.  There could be SE, ES or EB horses with additional titles from several other possible titles.

In the case of Egyptian Bred (EB) I have used the Grandsires being SE. If the sire is SE and the dam is not SE, then I am using the NEW Pyramid Society definition of ES (Egyptian Sired).  Remember that horses who are EB are considered Egyptian Bred (popularly known as Egyptian Related) even though the Definition change to ES has happened. NO horse LOSES its definition of Egyptian Bred as per The Pyramid Society standards. They are "Grandfathered" into the definition. The new definition of Egyptian Sired becomes effective with the 2005 Registrations.
